Absenteeism Rate Calculator
Calculate the absenteeism rate for your workforce by entering the number of days absent and the total available workdays.
Total number of days employees were absent during the period.
Total number of employees in the workforce.
Number of scheduled workdays in the period (e.g. 20 for one month).
Formula
Absenteeism Rate (%) =
(Total Days Absent ÷ (Number of Employees × Workdays in Period)) × 100
Attendance Rate (%) =
100 − Absenteeism Rate
Avg. Days Absent per Employee =
Total Days Absent ÷ Number of Employees
Assumptions & References
- All employees are assumed to have the same number of scheduled workdays in the period.
- Workdays exclude weekends and public holidays; enter only scheduled working days.
- Absences include all unplanned and planned leave (sick leave, personal leave, etc.) unless otherwise specified.
- Benchmark thresholds are based on industry guidance from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) absence surveys.
- A rate above 5% is widely considered high and may indicate systemic issues requiring HR intervention.
