Epoxy Floor Coating Coverage Calculator

Estimate the amount of epoxy floor coating needed based on your floor dimensions, number of coats, and product spread rate.

Formula

Floor Area = Length × Width

Waste Factor = 1 + (Waste % ÷ 100)

Total Area Needed = Floor Area × Number of Coats × Waste Factor

Gallons Needed = Total Area Needed ÷ Spread Rate (sq ft/gal)

Recommended Purchase = ⌈ Gallons Needed ⌉ (rounded up to nearest whole gallon)

Assumptions & References

  • Default spread rate of 250 sq ft/gallon is typical for most water-based and solvent-based epoxy floor coatings (manufacturer average; verify your product's data sheet).
  • A 10% waste factor is recommended to account for edges, corners, surface porosity, and minor spills.
  • Porous or unprimed concrete may absorb more product — increase the waste factor to 15–20% for first coats on bare concrete.
  • Two coats (primer + topcoat) is the industry-standard minimum for a durable finish; decorative or heavy-duty systems may require 3+ coats.
  • 1 US gallon = 4 quarts = 3.78541 liters.
