Floor Leveling Compound Calculator
Estimate the amount of self-leveling compound needed to level a floor based on the area and pour depth.
Formula
Area = Length (ft) × Width (ft)
Coverage per bag at given depth = Coverage1/8″ × (0.125 ÷ Depth)
— Bag coverage is rated at 1/8″ (0.125″); coverage scales inversely with depth.
Net bags = Area ÷ Coverage per bag at depth
Total bags (with waste) = Net bags × (1 + Waste% ÷ 100)
Bags to purchase = ⌈ Total bags ⌉ (ceiling / round up)
Pour volume (cu ft) = Area × (Depth ÷ 12)
Assumptions & References
- Standard self-leveling compound bags are 50 lbs each.
- Default coverage of 40 sq ft per bag at 1/8″ depth is typical for products such as Henry 547 or Mapei Ultraplan; always verify with your product's data sheet.
- Coverage scales inversely with depth: doubling the depth halves the coverage per bag.
- Maximum recommended single pour depth is typically 1″–2″; deeper fills may require multiple pours or a different product.
- A 10% waste factor is recommended as a default to account for spillage, uneven subfloor, and mixing losses.
- Subfloor must be clean, primed, and free of cracks > 1/8″ before pouring.
