Identity Theft Risk Score Calculator

Estimate your identity theft risk score (0–100) based on your digital habits, security practices, and data exposure. A higher score indicates greater risk.

Formula

Total Risk Score (0–100) = Breach Score + Behavior Score

Breach Score (0–20) = min(number of known breaches, 20) × 1

Behavior Score (0–80) = (Sum of 9 behavioral factor scores / 27) × 80

Each behavioral factor is rated 0 (best practice) to 3 (highest risk).
The 9 factors are: Password Reuse, MFA Usage, Social Media Privacy, Public Wi-Fi Habits, Credit Monitoring, Phishing Awareness, Mail/Document Shredding, SSN Sharing Habits, Device Security.

Risk Tiers:
0–20 = Low Risk  |  21–40 = Moderate-Low  |  41–60 = Moderate  |  61–80 = High  |  81–100 = Very High

Assumptions & References

  • Breach exposure data is self-reported; use HaveIBeenPwned.com to check your actual breach count.
  • Behavioral weights are derived from FTC identity theft risk frameworks and NIST SP 800-63 digital identity guidelines.
  • Password reuse is one of the top contributing factors to account takeover (Verizon DBIR 2023: 86% of breaches involve stolen credentials).
  • MFA reduces account compromise risk by 99.9% (Microsoft Security, 2019).
  • A credit freeze at all three bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion) is the most effective tool against new-account fraud (FTC recommendation).

  • Score is capped at 100 regardless of inputs exceeding maximum thresholds.
