Income Shares Calculator
Calculate each party's proportional share of combined household income and split shared financial obligations accordingly.
Formula
Income Share (Person N) = IncomeN ÷ (Income1 + Income2)
Monthly Contribution (Person N) = Income ShareN × Total Shared Monthly Expense
Example: Incomes of $60,000 and $40,000 → shares of 60% and 40%. On a $2,000/month expense: Person 1 pays $1,200, Person 2 pays $800.
Assumptions & References
- Income figures are gross (pre-tax) annual amounts.
- The income shares model is widely used in child support guidelines across U.S. states (e.g., Cassady v. Signorelli framework) and equitable household budgeting.
- Shared expenses are split strictly proportional to income; no adjustments for taxes, deductions, or other obligations are applied here.
- For child support calculations, consult your state's official guidelines — many states use income shares tables (e.g., Colorado, Florida, New York).
