Learning Outcome Achievement Calculator
Calculate the weighted Learning Outcome Achievement Rate (LOAR) and determine how many outcomes meet the mastery threshold.
Minimum score (%) required to consider an outcome "mastered".
Results will appear here.
Formula
Learning Outcome Achievement Rate (LOAR)
LOAR = Σ (Scorei × Weighti) / 100
Mastery Rate (MR)
MR = (Number of outcomes where Scorei ≥ Threshold) / n × 100
Achievement Levels
LOAR ≥ 90% → Excellent |
LOAR ≥ 75% → Proficient |
LOAR ≥ Threshold → Satisfactory |
Below Threshold → Needs Improvement
Assumptions & References
- All outcome weights must sum to exactly 100%.
- Each score represents the percentage of the outcome achieved (0–100%).
- The mastery threshold is institution-defined; 70% is a common standard (Bloom, 1968).
- LOAR is a weighted mean, consistent with competency-based education frameworks (Anderson & Krathwohl, 2001 — revised Bloom's Taxonomy).
- Achievement level bands (75%, 90%) follow common rubric-based grading conventions used in accreditation bodies such as ABET and SACSCOC.
- Up to 8 learning outcomes can be evaluated simultaneously.
