Net Worth Calculator
Calculate your total net worth by entering your assets and liabilities. Net worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities.
Assets
Liabilities
Formula
Net Worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities
Where:
- Total Assets = Cash & Savings + Investments & Retirement + Real Estate + Vehicles + Other Assets
- Total Liabilities = Mortgage + Car Loans + Student Loans + Credit Card Debt + Other Liabilities
- Debt-to-Asset Ratio = (Total Liabilities ÷ Total Assets) × 100
A positive net worth means your assets exceed your liabilities (solvent). A negative net worth means your liabilities exceed your assets (insolvent).
Assumptions & References
- All asset values should reflect current fair market value, not original purchase price.
- Real estate value should be the current estimated market value (e.g., from Zillow or a recent appraisal), not the original purchase price.
- Retirement accounts (401k, IRA, etc.) are included at current balance; note that withdrawals may be subject to taxes and penalties.
- Vehicle values should reflect current resale value (e.g., from Kelley Blue Book), not the loan balance.
- A Debt-to-Asset Ratio below 50% is generally considered healthy; above 80% may indicate financial stress.
- Net worth benchmarks vary by age; according to the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances (2022), the median U.S. household net worth is approximately $192,700.
- This calculator does not account for taxes owed on unrealized gains in investment or retirement accounts.
