Overtime Pay Calculator
Calculate your total pay including overtime compensation based on your hourly rate, hours worked, and applicable overtime multiplier.
Formula
Overtime Hours = Total Hours Worked − Regular Hours
Regular Pay = Hourly Rate × Regular Hours
Overtime Rate = Hourly Rate × Overtime Multiplier
Overtime Pay = Overtime Rate × Overtime Hours
Total Pay = Regular Pay + Overtime Pay
Effective Hourly Rate = Total Pay ÷ Total Hours Worked
Assumptions & References
- Under the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees must receive overtime pay of at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek.
- Some states (e.g., California) require daily overtime (over 8 hrs/day) and double time (over 12 hrs/day); this calculator uses a weekly threshold model.
- Regular hours default to 40 per week but can be adjusted for part-time or alternative schedules.
- This calculator does not account for taxes, deductions, shift differentials, or blended rate calculations for employees with multiple pay rates.
- Salaried exempt employees are generally not entitled to overtime under the FLSA; consult your employer or HR for clarification.
