Roster Strength Calculator
Calculate the overall strength of a roster based on player ratings, positional depth, and roster balance.
Formula
1. Weighted Roster Rating (WRR)
WRR = (Starters × Starter Avg Rating + Bench × Bench Avg Rating) / Total Players
2. Positional Balance Score (PBS)
PBS = Positions Filled / Total Required Positions [0 – 1]
3. Availability Factor (AF)
AF = (Total Players − Injured Players) / Total Players [0 – 1]
4. Experience Bonus (EB)
EB = min(Avg Experience / 10, 1) × 0.10 (up to +10%)
5. Depth Ratio Bonus (DR)
DR = min(Bench / Starters, 1.5) / 1.5 × 0.05 (up to +5%)
6. Roster Strength Score (RSS) — out of 100
RSS = WRR × PBS × AF × (1 + EB + DR)
Rating bands: ≥85 Elite | ≥70 Strong | ≥55 Average | ≥40 Below Average | <40 Weak
Assumptions & References
- Player ratings are on a 0–100 scale (e.g., scouting grades, video-game ratings, or composite analytics scores).
- The Weighted Roster Rating gives starters proportionally more influence than bench players based on roster counts.
- Positional Balance penalises rosters with unfilled required positions (e.g., no goalkeeper, no centre-back).
- The Availability Factor linearly reduces strength for every injured or suspended player.
- Experience Bonus saturates at 10 years average experience, reflecting diminishing returns of veteran presence.
- Depth Ratio Bonus rewards rosters with a healthy bench-to-starter ratio, capped at 1.5× to avoid over-rewarding bloated squads.
- The final score is capped at 100 to maintain a consistent scale.
