Season-Long vs. DFS Value Calculator
Compare a player's season-long fantasy value against their DFS value using projected points, salary, and ownership to determine optimal deployment.
Formulas
DFS Points Per $1,000: (Projected Points ÷ DFS Salary) × 1,000
DFS Leverage Score: Projected Points ÷ (Ownership % + 1)
DFS Value Score (0–100):
- Points Per $1k Score = min((Pts/$1k ÷ 2.0) × 50, 50) — benchmark: 2.0 pts/$1k
- Leverage Score = min((Leverage ÷ Benchmark Leverage) × 50, 50) — benchmark: 20% ownership
- DFS Value Score = Points Per $1k Score + Leverage Score
Points Above Replacement (PAR): Season Avg PPG − League Avg PPG at Position
Season-Long Value Score (0–100):
- PAR Score = min(max((PAR ÷ 5) × 50, 0), 50) — benchmark: +5 PAR = full score
- Availability Score = (1 − Roster % ÷ 100) × 50
- Season-Long Value Score = PAR Score + Availability Score
Recommendation: If |DFS Score − Season-Long Score| < 5 → Neutral; DFS Score higher → DFS Lean; Season-Long Score higher → Season-Long Lean.
Assumptions & References
- A DFS efficiency benchmark of 2.0 points per $1,000 salary is the widely accepted baseline for value plays across major DFS platforms (DraftKings, FanDuel).
- Ownership leverage is critical in GPP (tournament) formats; low-owned players with high projections provide lineup differentiation. The +1 adjustment prevents division by zero for 0% ownership.
- Points Above Replacement is a standard season-long metric comparing a player to the average starter at their position, adapted from sabermetrics (WAR concept).
- Roster percentage inversely affects season-long value — widely rostered players offer less waiver wire upside and trade leverage.
- A PAR benchmark of +5 points represents a strong starter advantage over a replacement-level player.
- Scores are normalized to a 0–100 scale for direct comparison. A difference of less than 5 points is treated as statistically neutral.
- This tool is format-agnostic and applies to NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL fantasy contexts.
