Team Salary Cap Calculator
Calculate your team's total salary obligations, cap space remaining, and per-player averages to manage your roster budget effectively.
Formulas Used
Total Obligations = Committed Salaries + Dead Cap
Cap Space Remaining = Total Salary Cap − Total Obligations
Cap Utilization (%) = (Total Obligations ÷ Total Salary Cap) × 100
Average Salary per Player = Committed Salaries ÷ Number of Players
Cap per Player (equal split) = Total Salary Cap ÷ Number of Players
Luxury Tax Overage = Total Obligations − Luxury Tax Threshold (if positive)
Est. Mid-Level Exception ≈ 50% × (Total Salary Cap ÷ Number of Players)
Assumptions & References
- Dead cap includes guaranteed money owed to waived/traded players that still counts against the cap.
- The Mid-Level Exception estimate is a simplified approximation; actual MLE values are set annually by the league.
- Luxury tax thresholds vary by league and season (e.g., NBA 2023–24 luxury tax line: ~$165.3M).
- This calculator is league-agnostic; enter the correct cap figure for your specific league (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, etc.).
- Cap figures sourced from official league CBA documents and Spotrac/OverTheCap for reference values.
- Does not account for cap holds, rookie scale slots, or bi-annual exceptions — consult a team's cap sheet for full accuracy.
