Countertop Material Cost Comparison Calculator

Compare the total installed cost of popular countertop materials — including material, fabrication, and installation — based on your countertop dimensions.

Formula

Area (sq ft) = (Length × Depth) ÷ 144

Material Cost = Area × Material Rate ($/sq ft) × Region Multiplier
Fabrication Cost = Area × Fabrication Rate ($/sq ft) × Region Multiplier × Edge Multiplier
Installation Cost = Area × Installation Rate ($/sq ft) × Region Multiplier
Cutout Fees = Number of Cutouts × Cutout Rate ($) × Region Multiplier

Total Installed Cost = Material Cost + Fabrication Cost + Installation Cost + Cutout Fees

Assumptions & References

  • Base material, fabrication, and installation rates are national averages (suburban) sourced from HomeAdvisor, Angi, and NKBA 2023 cost guides.
  • Region multipliers: Rural 0.85×, Suburban 1.00×, Urban 1.25×, Major Metro 1.45× — reflecting labor and overhead differences.
  • Edge profile multipliers apply only to fabrication cost: Eased 1.00×, Beveled 1.05×, Bullnose 1.10×, Ogee 1.15×.
  • Cutout fees cover sink and cooktop openings; undermount sinks may cost more than drop-in.
  • Standard countertop depth is 25 inches (24″ cabinet + 1″ overhang); island depths vary.
  • Costs do not include: demolition/removal of existing countertops (~$3–$8/sq ft), plumbing reconnection, backsplash, or permits.
  • Laminate costs assume post-form or custom laminate; premium patterns may cost more.
  • Granite and marble costs assume mid-grade slabs; exotic or book-matched slabs can be 2–3× higher.
  • Concrete countertops require sealing every 1–3 years; ongoing maintenance costs are not included.
  • All costs are in USD and reflect 2023–2024 pricing. Obtain at least 3 local quotes before purchasing.
