Developmental Milestone Age Checker
Enter your child's age to see which developmental milestones are typically expected and whether your child is on track.
How It Works
The child's age is converted to total months: Total Months = (Years × 12) + Months. Each milestone has two key ages:
- Typical Age (ageMonths): The age by which most children (≥50th percentile) achieve the milestone.
- Red Flag Age (warningAge): The age beyond which absence of the milestone warrants professional evaluation.
Status logic:
• If ageMonths > totalMonths → 🔵 Upcoming (not yet expected)
• If totalMonths ≥ warningAge → 🔴 Red flag (consult pediatrician)
• Otherwise → 🟢 On track (within normal developmental window)
Assumptions & References
- Milestone ages are based on CDC "Learn the Signs. Act Early." developmental milestones (2022 revision).
- Additional reference: AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) Bright Futures guidelines.
- Red flag ages are derived from the Denver Developmental Screening Test II (Denver II) 90th-percentile cutoffs.
- This tool covers ages 1 month to 5 years (60 months); milestones beyond 5 years are not included.
- Developmental milestones represent population averages. Premature infants should use corrected age (subtract weeks premature from chronological age) until age 2.
- A "red flag" status does not constitute a diagnosis. Always consult a licensed pediatrician or developmental specialist.
- Bilingual children may show language milestone variation; this is normal and not a red flag in isolation.
