Formulas Used

Weighted Composite Score (0–10):

Composite = Σ (Domain Score × Domain Weight)

Weights: Cognitive 20%, Gross Motor 15%, Fine Motor 15%, Receptive Language 15%, Expressive Language 15%, Social-Emotional 10%, Adaptive 10%

Estimated Developmental Age:

Dev Age (months) = Chronological Age × (Composite Score / 7.5)

Where 7.5/10 represents the age-appropriate benchmark score (75th percentile baseline)

Developmental Quotient (DQ):

DQ = (Developmental Age / Chronological Age) × 100

Interpretation: DQ ≥ 115 = Advanced | 85–114 = Age-Appropriate | 70–84 = Mild Delay | < 70 = Significant Delay

Percentile Estimate:

Z = (DQ − 100) / 15 → Percentile via standard normal CDF (mean=100, SD=15)

Assumptions & References

  • Domain weights are adapted from the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (Bayley-4) and CDC Developmental Milestones frameworks.
  • The expected composite score of 7.5/10 represents typical age-appropriate performance at the 50th percentile.
  • Developmental Quotient (DQ) is analogous to the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) concept, standardized to mean=100, SD=15 per Gesell Developmental Schedules conventions.
  • Scores are self-reported by caregivers; clinical validation requires formal standardized testing by a licensed professional.
  • Developmental Age is capped at 133% of chronological age to prevent unrealistic extrapolation.
  • Percentile estimates use the Abramowitz & Stegun (1964) normal CDF approximation (max error < 7.5×10⁻⁸).
