Formula

Step 1 — Weighted Average Score (WAS):

WAS = Σ (Scorei × Weighti)

Where each dimension score is rated 1–5 and multiplied by its assigned weight:

  • Organizational Commitment — 15%
  • Motivation & Enthusiasm — 15%
  • Job Satisfaction — 12%
  • Employee Advocacy / eNPS — 10%
  • Strategic Alignment — 10%
  • Growth & Development — 10%
  • Recognition & Appreciation — 8%
  • Wellbeing & Work-Life Balance — 8%
  • Manager Effectiveness — 7%
  • Team Collaboration & Culture — 5%

Step 2 — Normalize to 0–100% (Employee Engagement Score):

EES (%) = ((WAS − 1) / (5 − 1)) × 100

Engagement Tiers:

  • ≥ 80% — Highly Engaged
  • 65–79% — Moderately Engaged
  • 50–64% — Partially Engaged
  • 35–49% — Disengaged
  • < 35% — Actively Disengaged

Assumptions & References

  • Scores represent average survey responses from employees within a team, department, or organization on a Likert 1–5 scale.
  • Dimension weights are based on research-backed engagement frameworks including Gallup Q12, Aon Hewitt's Say-Stay-Strive model, and Willis Towers Watson's engagement drivers.
  • Commitment and Motivation are weighted highest (15% each) as they are the strongest predictors of discretionary effort and retention (Gallup, 2023).
  • The normalization formula maps the 1–5 scale to a 0–100% range, where 1 = 0% and 5 = 100%.
  • Industry benchmark: Gallup (2023) reports global employee engagement at ~23%; top-quartile organizations score above 70%.
  • This calculator is intended for diagnostic and benchmarking purposes. Results should be supplemented with qualitative feedback and pulse surveys.
